[mkgmap-dev] Encoding problem with splitter

Running splitter I get an error related with encoding:

java -Xmx750M -jar splitter.jar ../JOSM/peninsula.osm
Error opening or reading file
com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.io.MalformedByteSequenceException:
Invalid byte 2 of 3-byte UTF-8 sequence.
Total time 37s

Any hint?
