[mkgmap-dev] Inter-Tile Routing for Maps with several tiles made from the same area
From Felix Hartmann extremecarver at googlemail.com on Thu Feb 19 23:21:47 GMT 2009
Great, routing across does not only work on tiles split with the osm-splitter, but also works if you produce tiles from the same are. I.e you can take austria.osm and use two different style-files one where the file "lines" includes motorways, trunk roads, primary roads and secondary roads, and another tile linking up all other roads. Routes can be calculated as if the roads were all on the same tile (at least in Mapsource - haven't yet tried on my etrex). This is with maps created directly from OSM without osm2mp. On the other hand autorouting does not seem to work if I try to route between a Point on Street A and a Point on Street B with the streets not being connected (in Austria very often due to the data import by plan.at streets are intersecting without having a connecting node - however often also streets are not connected due to user error), in this case the whole route will only be done as a straight line, instead of routing the main part and then only routing via "air" for the not connected parts. It would be great if there could be added an option to autoconnect highways before compiling. (I do understand that this will be not easy, but I don't think with the volatile format of OSM we can ever get really usable autorouting without adding some intelligent mechanism here)
