Hello Ulf,

I just looked at your patch, I haven't tried it out.
But I think the line

Reader r = null;

should be deleted. Then as an fallback in exception case the original 
filereader will be used.
In general I find it a good idea to open the styles file in UTF8, as as 
least the base chars are compatible to ASCII.
