The mapbuilding script tries to make those maps as large as possible. Perhaps related is that I upped the max-nodes from 1.400.000 to 1.600.000 for the current map version. I'll reduce the max-nodes for the next update but, ideally, Mkgmap should complain and quit if there is too much information in the source data (This is certainly no complaint, ofcourse I know this all depends on the understanding of the Garmin format).
