If, by "forever", you mean "about an hour", then yes. :-) Last week, I generated a map of the entire Geofabrik Europe extract. The coasts of Finland appeared to be correctly generated. This took about 20 hours on my laptop though (memory seemed to be the main bottleneck). The same for an Osmosis extract of the bounding box of Germany takes a few hours. I would expect something similar for Finland, even with the much more complex coastline. Maybe you should just start your map generation and then do something else away from your computer for an hour or two. ;-) Cheers.
