I guess that it would then be represented as separate glyphs I and J, and Garmin would "helpfully" display it as Ij, just like it does display the Ring III as Ring Iii. BTW, OsmAnd+ on Android does not seem to have these issues, as it supports UTF-8 directly. I did not get to test it with an offline vector map yet, because OsmAndMapCreator-0.6.8.2-beta did not finish the translation of finland.osm.pbf in reasonable time. Based on the size of the temporary files, it might have exploded the 100MB source file to somewhere around 1GB. One thing that OsmAndMapCreator seemed to do better than splitter+mkgmap is the reporting of multipolygon errors. It would say something like "node NNNN of role=inner way of multipolygon RRRR is lying outside the role=outer bounds" or "multipolygon RRRR has only role=inner ways". This could partly be because it "saw" the entire finland.osm.pbf unlike mkgmap, which only gets to see small tiles. Marko
