Yes, I have done exactly the same.

I would like to see another change in default style, file "address". 
Maybe you could add this line before default mkgmap:region processing:

mkgmap:country=POL & mkgmap:region!=* & mkgmap:admin_level4=* { set 
mkgmap:region='${mkgmap:admin_level4|subst:województwo =>}' }

There is national character in "województwo", in UTF-8 this is C3h B3h.
