code cleanup using hints from sonarlint, no change in output expected
- improve check of --polygon-size-limits, stop if an error is found instead of writing errors to stderr
- use log.error() instead of system.err.println()
- use more lambdas and computeIfAbsent
- merge nested if-then clauses
- improve formatting
- remove some TODO
