Hi Randolph,

the message means that there is too much data in a map file. This is a Garmin limit.
Do you get this error message for the overview map or for a single tile?
If it's the overview map you should change your style to put fewer details into the overview map.
If it's a single tile you can either use a lower --max-nodes value for splitter or change your style to reduce the details in the normal map tiles.

SEVERE (global): The RGN section of the map or tile is too big. The
maximum size is 16777215 bytes. Try splitting the map into smaller tiles
or reducing the amount of information included in the map.

With last year's versions, this worked.

What is the fix?

I osmosis combined the pbf files from geofabrik.de for north, central,
and south America using osmosis, which appeared to have worked without
problems. The pbfs were down loaded in the last two weeks.

There were some roundabout errors from splitter.

I get the error message above from mkgmap.
