Thanks Gerd! I have test it once and the patched mkgmap was 25% faster than r2147. I think common cases will not give such a big performance boost but the result is: it's faster (no matter how much) :-) Therefor I have commited the patch. How did you measure the reduced heap memory? I only know the method to reduce the -Xmx parameter until java throws an OutOfMemoryExeption. But that's a very tedious method.
